And, indeed, it falls slightly with door open. On the digital Bearcat, 1.21 to 1.15.

Mine continues as project. But I had to haul tail Sunday to get under a load readied early.

Have changed to a dipole setup.

Edit: had braided ground strap at house to go from mount to body bolt, but left it behind.

The ProComm 2017+ Mount is “fair” or better as to strength. The 6.5’ Firestik is as tall as I’d want to go. I doubt either would survive many strikes.

This job is food grade smoothbore tanker. “Shipping” is drop & hook. “Receiving” is either that or into a pull-thru bay for unloading. That last is the only time for “required obstacles”.

Agree with your assessment. But, . . .

. . first a tip of the yarmulke to The Hambone Rebbe for proclaiming the glory of an

    MFJ-347 Hamstick Dipole Mount

Bought a couple. And the ProComm bird perch mounts.

Tried the FS plus an Everhardt down. Whoa, it got QUIET!

But the pair are too heavy. Too much wind resistance.

The ProComm Quads are easily worth the price, but not on this mount.

So, now with 5.5’ Francis up, and 3.0’ Francis down.

100- mph road tests underway (70-mph plus 30-mph headwind) from 100-miles east of DFW out to New Mexico. Gusts are higher out on the Caprock (425’ elevation at “receiving”, 4,205’ at “shipping”) as this job is essentially back to back round trips. I break a few things, hell, then I’ll try more.

At this point I’m reaching the limits of the baseline radio. I can hear pretty far, but some voices too faint.

Can’t yet give an estimate as to distance received. 5-miles out west? Sure, and then some. Put these on last night. Not much traffic eastbound to delivery.

Be nice if Francis still sold the 8’ Amazer, those’d be fun to try.

The compressor from the refrigerator is now REALLY loud and it’s sounds are clear. Since all else got so quiet.

I can run with squelch off and RF Gain wide open. The BC-20 DSP stays on, and I experiment with the 880 radio NB and ANL as I run the 100-mile long gauntlet of the 7.5-million people in DFW.

Once I’m north of IH-20 onto US-84 making the turn north into the Panhandle late today and into tonight, I’m looking forward to how well it does. Guys out there tend to run large cars with pretty decent radios. Liquid fertilizer hauling and cattle trucks.

SWR shows 1.10-1.117 on the 880 readout. With or without the KL-203 powered up.

At some point I hope to find someone with an antenna analyzer. But today I’m a thousand miles down the road compared to where I was with the OEM built-in antenna.

Those other pics are coming, Craig. Cable routing and all.

I haven’t put the Hamstick and PComm mounts together to see if I could Frankenstein something (or is it straight redneckin’?). Two of each to play with. And some co-phase coax.

Anyone ever follow Francis instructions on using 19’ of RG-58 cophase (do not substitute RG-8X)?

And, hey, Handlebar (lets see if I can guess what’ll make you laugh), I found a copy of your samizdat, “The Dipole Disquisitions”, left behind on the bus one afternoon. Too dog-eared and fragile, it now rests on the bookshelf with the Kesey, Abbey, Gardner and Ram Dass.

    Thanks. Lit the flame.

But I’m still working out the sunburst thing. An outer manifestation? And “foil” as in Reflecting the material or Rejecting? Can’t find the applicable RD Laing.

Slowmover, with those SWR values I doubt the extra grounding strap on the door would make a difference. Wow.

    Thanks for those running reports!

BTW, at 70mph into a 30mph and your itinerary, you ain't moving slow enough to earn your moniker. :)
