I retired from the financial services industry and had always wanted to drive trucks. I am also a US Army Combat veteran. I chose this company because of their promise of better training and pay because of my veteran status. THE TRAINING WAS A JOKE! I wanted to learn how to drive, not train to just get a license. I drove approximately 100 miles before I obtained my CDL. So, I parted ways with CRST.
Any trucker will tell you this is nowhere near the training needed to be a good, safe and efficient driver. To compare, my new company requires approximately 10,000 miles before testing for the CDL exam, all while being paid to train.
Chose wisely before you succumb to promises, as CRST could put you further behind than before you started. I thought that even though the training was bad, at least I had my CDL and could get a job easily, not the case. Other companies that I looked into before choosing my current one essentially required me to start over, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. My new organization Prime Inc, is world class.
If you're looking to get into trucking, DON'T GO TO CRST!

Even the smallest amount of research online would have told you, or anyone else, that CRST was not a good company.

Prime is world class?! Ok.
Turn4, PoleCrusher, Texas_hwy_287 and 9 others Thank this. -

Just my experience but it seems to me the Prime drivers I see are more professional than most mega drivers. All companies have good ones and bad ones but as a whole I think Prime is fine. Don’t usually see Prime ripping a hood off in the parking lot.

In other news, water is wet.
P.S. are there any schools that do more than teach how to pass the test?bigblue19, Sirscrapntruckalot, Dan.S and 3 others Thank this. -
How would you know what world class is only driving for a month or so & for CRST nonetheless.
I'm going to let you in on a little secret..... 99% of all trucking company suck. The other 01% suck less and are tolerable.dukeofearl, Sirscrapntruckalot, Dave_in_AZ and 5 others Thank this. -
Yea while I have to agree CRST is probably not the best company I do have to say that no matter where you train you will only learn enough to pass your CDL test and that is it.. The real training is supposed to happen when you are with your trainer. I say supposed to because some trainers are ####.. Best of luck at Prime they have been good to me..
Roadrash118, TST65 and Lonesome Thank this. -
You will get your REAL training when you are alone on a icey mountainside or delivering to some hole in the wall in the big city or battling wind gusts on 80 or 25.
To be honest training has come along way since I started. My school in 91 had you back between cones for a few days & all the cdl driving training was the actual course for the exam, maybe did 20mi .. Never went past 7th gear till I was thrown the keys & told to pu a load of strawberries in Watsonville Ca & head for Georgia, my "trainer" went to bed. Back then if you had a CDL you were ready to make the trainer some money or find your ### put out on the street.dukeofearl, Dave_in_AZ, diesel drinker and 2 others Thank this. -
Saw one of their skateboarders get his hood ripped off trying to make his own parking space.
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.
