I need some input from current owners. I am looking at a 2013 T680 with the 450HP ISX @ 702K miles. I am not super familiar with this specific model and advice on it would be welcome.
2013 T680?

Umm... buyer beware -
That’s going to be either a 2250 or 2350 ISX, both which run off the high pressure fuel system, both which have the high pressure fuel pump that have a track record for breaking the ceramic plungers into the oil causing all sorts of ruckus.
I’ll just start with that.stwik, Lepton1 and nightgunner Thank this. -
Is there an upgraded fuel pump available that will fix this issue?
-
Well not really, it’s been upgraded to steel plungers but those have breaking into pieces too
-
The guys I know with this motor change/ or rebuild the fuel pump around every 300k or less just as a preventative measure
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
What kind of it cost is involved with that type of preventive maintenance?
-
Umm, I don’t know exactly. Im pretty sure the pump is north of $ 1k, but I think the rebuild kits are about 300$ if you do it your self.
My truck has the cm871 (2007-2011) pre def/ the model before the pumps got put on - which was circa 2011-2012, post def models (2250,2350) - so I don’t have much first hand experience on the pricingnightgunner Thanks this. -
Our. Company trucks are 2014 t680’s. Cummins with dt12 autos. They all have less than 500 thousand miles on them.
Owner looking at new trucks because these are costing more in maintenance than new truck payments. Looking at trading in on similar equipment pacar engines this time. One got a new engine at 350k miles because of the fuel pump. All have been towed at least 2 times last year. Another blew a head gasket 2 months ago. The one that got the “new” engine last year just had to have the cam replaced 2 months ago too.
KW dealer said they’d give $35k each on trade in and $145k for the new ones. So $110 out the door to get a warranty again.
Not with my money!Lepton1 and nightgunner Thank this. -
This is making me just want to buy more pre-DPF S60 Detroit engines.
Ristow, Tug Toy and HopeOverMope Thank this. -
I wouldn't go near that truck. Just what the other posters are saying. Had the fuel pump go twice . The first time with ceramic plungers, the engine blew a little over a month after it happened, at 305,000 miles. Cummins wouldn't cover it. The second time with metal plungers caught it before it took out another engine. DPF/DEf issues constantly. turbo went $7000 ,then the injector tubes cracked and needed a head $$$$$.Get a pre- emmisions truck and stay away from these time bombs.
nightgunner and HopeOverMope Thank this.
