Given my educational and criminal background, I am vastly overpaid as compared to what my job prospects otherwise would be. That said, trucking has provided me an avenue to make more than most college graduates, and I am debt free. I recommend everyone drive a truck. #### a real job.

Why do some drivers love abuse...leads to my favorite line in the Declaration of Independence -

and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed

    All a good point.

It is a shame so many get invested in the BS line that the recruiters hand out and believe the framework set up by the Mega trucking industry is the only way the job can be handled.

I swear, after paying for trucking school, driving for a mega, and spending long hours alone on the road away from friends and family suffer from Stockholm Syndrome Stockholm syndrome - Wikipedia.

They tend to sympathies with the mega trucking company their captors:

They think of pay in terms of 'miles.' The hope for, dream, and beg for more freight, more 'miles.' Like you can take 'miles' to the bank. Like you can eat with 'miles.'

After getting screwed out of detention pay the first couple of times, they just quit asking. They will make up with more 'miles.' "The trucking company cannot pay detention, because they didn't get detention." Yeh, right!

Same with layover. After getting screwed their they just take layover as 'time off.' A 34.

The truck driver should just take being away for months at a time, screwed over with piecework, work for free all totaling up to less then minimum wage because the poor company cannot survive if they didn't. Didn't anybody notice how much these Mega companies make?

Feel free. Nothing preventing you from working at a union shop or bring a union into your shop.

Great idea. Then the majority of the workforce can sit on theirs butts on do nothing while the minority with better morals and work ethics can do all the workload themselves yet ALL get the same pay no matter what. Then in time the company folds under the overburdened demands of the union and nobody will be employed.
