In all honesty, that is probably the best advice or words, you could give him. Job hopping right now is not a good idea. I do not know who your husband works for, but tell him to butter up to his dispatcher. It is a good time to keep a positive outlook and take what one can get. At least he does not have to worry about a truck payment!
Just hang in there, and keep praying for all of us.
And this time of year is always the roughest, with the holidays and inventory. Always slow, but never like this. I think Jan will be better as we ease on into Feb.

You got to remember tho, there are more things happening now. After an election it always is slow, plus with the economy and people are worried about the new President, so it might be a little slower on taking off this year.

That is our biggest problem, Obama. All of his talk about redistribution of the haves to the have nots, has created a firestorm, or firesale. Take it how ever you want. More layoffs are to come, and lets see where he takes it all. So far he has done a 180 on his promises and is leaning conservative. Lets just see how he handles congress. If he can put them in their place, we might have a chance.
But I am not holding my breath.
And I come from a few generations of the self employed. My entire family is scared. We are just little guys, and recently sold off and liquidated our businesses as we saw the writing on the wall. So far we have been 100% correct in our moves. Sad thing is, the big boys knew what we knew, as this is not rocket science. Ain't nothing free. And everyone is now feeling the pain.

Waterloo, i hope i dont twist this into a political b!tch session, but not once, EVER, has any recent president ever kept his promice that i can remember. It was almost the day after when we started hearing how he is going to pretty much keep the 'status quo' in Washington.
You honestly believe any politican out there?? if you think so, i got some ocean front property in new mexico.
I think the people who are going to be in for the biggest shock will be all the african americans who voted for Obama thinking "now we'll get some" attitude.
Even Obama has said it will get worse before it gets better. The way i look at it....if i can still make $500-700 a week, i really dont care one way or another. and so far, i'm doing that.
and something george carlin once said about politicians. He said, "...politicans are put there to give us the illusion that we have a choice. YOU DONT, YOU HAVE OWNERS...."panhandlepat Thanks this. -
I'm in almost the same situation, low miles, but my wife is unable to work. I live in FL (I see your from the S.E.)
As far as it hurting his work record,I wouldn't worry about that, just be sure he has a job before quitting his present job.
Living in FL, I've always had trouble getting home and back out with out losing time during most of my 12 years of driving. I am now looking at the 3 food grade tanker companies that are near my home. Bynum,Oakley and Indian River. I think it will benefit me to live closer to the terminal. So I'm saying, if there are any companies of any size near you,it might be worth checking into them,if he is losing time getting home and then having trouble getting loaded back out.
Sounds like your hubby has a very supportive wife. I can spot one 'cause I got one. Good Luck, God Bless -
Oh and another thing, If a driver tells me that his company has great everything, makes it sound great. I ALWAYS ask if his company has a recruiting bonus. So if I hire on,he gets paid. Beware
-
If a driver tells me that, everything is wonderful...and offers me his truck number or his name. I won't apply.billsgirl Thanks this.

Thanks roadtime for your comments on being a supportive wife. That is exactly what I am trying to do because lets face it....if a marriage is going to survive this lifestyle you need to be in it together. And if a marriage is going to survive in this economy in this lifestyle we MUST be in this together.
I am not a huge political person. Or at least not pubically anyway.
I learned a long time ago that nothing would stir up a hornets nest at work or among friends faster than a good old fashion discussion on politics. But I do sit back and watch, listen, read, study and take it all in. Obama earned himself one hell of a mess. I'm not sure how anybody white, black, red, green, democrat, republic, independent, unheard of etc. could walk into the mess our country is in right now and "make it all better". There are tough times ahead regardless of who landed in the office. What he does next will determine just how tough and for how long. I know I would not want the job!
People everywhere are scared right now and not just in the trucking industry. People are sitting back waiting and holding their breath to see what happens next. And that really is all we can do for now. That and for those who believe....pray.
Good luck to you. I am not in Florida but it seems to be one of the toughest locations of all. -
Sorry about the political crap. But your husband has such little time under his belt, and I seriously doubt it will be any better anywhere else right now. You have read about the hiring freezes, etc. If the company he is with is stable, stay put and get a year under his belt. Good or bad economy, that has always been the best advice for a new guy. Paying ones dues.
Mike -
No need to apologize. The political crap is unfortunately a BIG part of this whole issue right now. And I think like it or not we all have to be prepared for the fact that things may get worse before they get better.
Perfect example......my hubby got a load this morning. 28 miles!! Yes you read that right. 28 miles. There are no zeros missing. I busted out laughing. And then suddenly so did he. I think it was more like hysterical laughter but what the hell could we say?
