Got my first day done here, just a bunch of paper work and physical/drug testing and tests on PC. I am impressed with everything, nice hotel and training center. Lunch was good too. Haven't seen or heard any of the negative things I read abut on here,, I was told 50 were in the class, but I only counted 38 of both experianced and not experianced drivers. I think 1 or 2 guys got let go today because of medical reasons.

One funny thing was my roommate turned out to be Grumpy1 who posted on the Favorite trucking forum here, I was the first one here then he came 2nd since he drove. I was glad I flew, only 4 hours with 1 stop over, the bus guys didn't get here till 8pm Sunday, some from my area too, and they were tired bunch for sure.

Not sure how much I'll be able to update this as I am on the PC in lobby. But I will try and get Grumpy1 to post too. But so far TMC looks good, hopefully I'll make it through.

    See ya

What is their turnover rate at TMC? I am a flatbedder, and TMC keeps hiring guys, as there is little if any freight out here?

What gives? Any insight on your end? What are they telling you guys in regards to your miles per week?

I know TMC, they came into my neighborhood and slashed rates to that of a dry van. I don't quite understand what is up over there. Or even how they are still in business after what they have done.

FirNa great to hear from you! Man I'm pissed I can't be there this class. To top it off we STILL have not got a reschedule date from the Secretary of States office. Our entire class (only 15 drivers) is pretty much over a barrel, just ridiculous but hey what do you expect in a state where Blagojevich gets re-elected. Looks like right now I'm going to have to call Jen and cancel next Monday's start. Please keep me posted, I'm anxious to hear how it goes. Congrats and best of luck!

This is about Firna's time in class. Not about TMC slashing rates or how they're still in business. If you would like to know that information, please start a different post, as I would like to read about his experience in class and I'm sure the answers to your questions would take this off topic. Sorry if that sounds rude, as it's not meant to be.

Firna, Good luck with the rest of the week and congrats for surviving the first day!!

    Good luck Fir.

I was glad I flew to my orientation as well. The grey dog was overbooked so three people from our orientation class got bumped to the next run out of Philadelphia and didn't arrive until 8am Monday.

Waterloo start a new thread on that subject and I will be happy to answer.

Quite often a thread will take off in a different direction than the original, sometimes 2 or 3 directions at once. IF you dont care about the other questions/topics/answers posted just skip over them...I have found this works best for me when I am following a thread that takes off.....and I am more interested in the orignial topic BUT I have also found several times that the "off topic" posts are just as interesting.....:biggrin_25525:

Thanks everyone for your support. Day 3 is now over, we covered log books and had some test on it as well. Also did more classroom stuff regarding driving and saftey. We have New Years day off here so we will have to find something to do with our time, then its load and securement Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and I think yard and road driving after that.

As far as I know and can tell, most of us are still here, 1 guy got sent home and maybe another, maybe from the experianced students. I am still here and so far so good.

Again I will say everything I've seen so far has been good here, some don't like it but I think they have their stuff together here real nice. According to them they will weather the downturn just fine as they are still hiring. Even if I don't make it, I will be disappointed but won't blame them or berate them.

Gotta run,, as people are waiting to use PC here, lol. More updates tomorrow maybe.

    Happy New Year to all

I'm glad to here that you are hanging in and things are going well. Hope things continue to go well for you.

I really appreciate the updates because TMC is on the top of my list of companies that I have been looking at. I plan on starting truck driving school toward the end of January and naturally have many questions. Hope their still hiring by the time I get out of school.

My biggest concern is that I am about to turn 50 and worried about the physical aspect of flatbedding. I feel that I am in pretty good shape and I'm not afraid of hard work, just naturally worried I guess. Are there any guys about my age in your class? I am particularly interested to hear how the load securment training goes.

Happy New Year to you and best wishes!
