since I’m driving a newer truck only use it when needed. Brake lights come on whenever the jake kicks on. Gets annoying when in the city or rolling hills on highway
Paddlewagon Thanks this. -
That guy is a first class schmuck, IMHO. I have enough class to not be obnoxious with my Harley where and/or when people might be sleeping, and truck drivers have a duty to do likewise.Highway Sailor, Dino soar, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this.

The one in my pickup truck stays on. That’s the best preventative maintenance on that there is.

You mention something that is a pet peeve of mine. In the last couple of years I've driven hundreds of trucks for customers. It's a mixed bag of makes, models, and how they are set up. Three identical KW's in the fleet and one has instant Jake's, another has a delay, and yet another requires you to tap the service brake to engage the Jake.
If I drive with the Jakes on there's a reason for that. It's to provide instant braking power as soon as I let off the throttle. Pencil necked bean counters can ruin a day.Blackshack46 and bottomdumpin Thank this. -
Bean counters ruin everything.

Yep, he got nailed by a Portsmouth police officer on I 264 a while back. Not sure if he has went to court yet. He lives in Suffolk and has been cited by them as well. Typical hard head. More money then good sense.Lepton1 Thanks this.

You just answered a question That's been bothering me for a while now! I was following this one truck on hwy 95 from Nv up into Id and could not figure out why his brake lights kept going on and off all the time. It started getting annoying because usually if brake lights go on in front of me it means something is going on. I was even starting to wander if the driver was seeing imaginary deer beside the road . But yeah, thanks for clarifying that.

Us old dogs can learn new tricks. I did not know this. Amazing and rather stupid if you ask me!

Leave it 3rd click down in busy stop and go traffic, and when going down steep mountains (unless iroad is slick).then do the "stab braking" for 3 or 4 seconds to keep the SOB from running away on the passes downhill.JMO
