Parents made me get a college education....BS in Business then said I could do whatever I wanted. Here I am a successful business owner of a company of one truck...never wanted more than that...never wanted the headache. Got a partner in the business too...she has her BS in Business/Marketing....hell we make a team...just wish she was back in the truck and not pushing paperwork.

Don't know about driving and getting a degree but I have a B.A. in Bus. Admin. and that seemed to help me with being an O/O. Good luck in your indeavor.

I also have a BA degree from the University of Virginia and am now entering the industry as a new driver. A degree, in and of itself, is no guarantee that you'll get a job or the job that you want, but it will never hurt you. If you have the opportunity, I'd absolutely get the education. I can say that I was more highly recruited out of my driving school than were some other students, primarily because of my education. If I don't pursue a management position with a carrier after gaining some experience in the industry, it will only be because I've chosen to become an owner/operator.
