Yes, with out location it is hard to say. I argee with the others.
-
How do you suggest I get the dealer to allow a test drive of a couple hundred miles?
-
I would like to know what truck can you recommend for local work

When I was buying my truck dealer who is seeing me for the first time gave me the key and let me to test drive it without leaving a single thing. I could just drive away, but I didn't.

Most honest dealerships will let you drive the truck to your shop of choice or to Dyno. If they dont allow you do that, then walk away. While driving to shop, put some miles in it to see if check engine comes on.

The dealership I bought from let me take the truck off their lot for 2 days. Then they let me drop it off at the local dyno. And when the dyno place handed me a list of little problems, the dealership fixed them.
It was one of 20 identical trucks they had from a fleet buy out, so they weren't going to lose a sale while I had it.Speed_Drums and Lepton1 Thank this. -
Take it to a engine manufacturers certified dealer, to get a Dyno and oil analysis done. The tests can pay for them self
Speed_Drums Thanks this.
