Not sure if this may be an issue or not. This is the first Detroit I have ever owned or even operated. When I first start the truck (cold engine) the rpm jumps straight up to 900 and stays there for a few minutes before it gradually goes down to where it should 600ish. With the air pressure being low in the morning it may be some kind of automatic thing to build air pressure faster I'm not sure. Any ideas?

They automatically idle fast when cold. It's to warm it up faster.

    swaan and Hulld Thank this.

It's doing what it's designed to do.
Normal. Aids in warm up time.

    Hulld Thanks this.
