The rate would have been good...Bensenville, IL - Winchester, VA - $2900... rarity this time of the year. The only thing...the broker wanted me to check in as a different (larger) carrier...Well, I politely declined...and the deal was off.
I remember doing this staff while leased on to a different carrier, but with my own MC# I don't like such convolutions...too paranoid, I guess. Is it all right, legally, to check in as someone else? If not, what could be the repercussions? Anyone had any bad experiences with that? One of the risks that comes immediately to my mind; you may not get paid but the carrier you checked in as, although the rate con info should supersede all that. (?)
Checking in as a different carrier?

I did that one on a brokered load of lumber. I think it was a blind load, broker didn't want the shipper knowing that it was being brokered off
-
It was not a blind shipment. I'd do a blind shipment for that rate in a heart beat. The wanted me to pick up the freight as someone completely different (they said, "when you check in tell'em that you are ...X".The broker itself was not that carrier. Heck with that...I'll find something else.

Yeah that squicks me right out as well. At that point you're not sure if he's real or not. The next words out of his mouth need to be 'the big carrier is the customer'. That's the only answer I'd take. Every other one is super super super shady.
-
I don't think l would do it for an unknown broker. We used to do it for another trucking company. They would sell us loads and it was a whole big deal to get registered at the customer. So it was easier to sign under his name. Almost like trip leasing back in the day.
-
Yeah as soon as I know the brokerage is a real shop and I'm talking to a person whose legit my hackles go way down. If there is anything shady going on beyond that point it really has nothing to do with the carrier.

The CK can go to carrier thats printed on B O L but what part of the $ will be sent to your co is the deal?
-
If I can’t say I’m picking up on BEHALF of xx i wouldn’t do it either

Yeah, I'm with @boredsocial here. This sounds way too shady to make it worth the money, @TallJoe. Fairly sure you made the right call here - you have to wonder if you'd actually get paid the rate you would want. The whole thing just feels way wrong.
TallJoe Thanks this. -
I never had a problem checking in as xx carrier.
