Warning all Class A CDL drivers. Stay away from J. L. Settles Limited in Fostoria, Ohio. He is a crook. He does not pay you. Worked for him and never received any paycheck/money for the work I did. I am not the only driver he has cheated. Harasses drivers to violate hours of service and falsify driver logs.

Not a cent, eh? How long til you discovered this tidbit of information?
FlaSwampRat, bigblue19, Broke Down 69 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Only took me 10 days to figure it out! I know of another driver who was owed $6000. Owner conned him into returning his equipment and never payed him. Pretty much what he did to me. I was told to return the truck and I’d be payed. Now he has his truck back and I’m out $2200.
Sirscrapntruckalot, jsnell and Lonesome Thank this. -
I don't know about you, but It's nearly impossible to falsify what the computer reports. It will read as a HOS violation if you go over your hours. The feds got wise to this with the logbook and how easily they could be falsified, and That's why they made the switch to mandatory electronic logs.
If you are still using paper logs, you are violating the law unless your company has some kind of temporary exemption going for it.
I don't see how an employer or dispatcher can "force" you into falsifying either a paper log but especially an e-log!FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
Do you really think the feds have gestapo agents searching for individual e-log violation? Are you new to trucking? The company still has control over the data stream until you confirm your logs. I know of countless instances when my last 2 OTR companies changed drivers logs that drivers had not verified yet to show more hours available. There are drivers who exploit the system also by padding their hrs. You know the hobo on wheels scam?.
1x I worked over 16 hrs trying to get from Redding Ca to Portland Or during a snowstorm & my e-logs never showed me in violation 1x. There was no magical leprechaun doing that.Last edited: Apr 9, 2018

Friend of mine ran 2 trips to Texas from Fresno Ca. $.45 a mile. He finally got paid but the owner spread it out over a 2yr period.Lonesome Thanks this.

Hire a lawyer. It’s great and swell to trash the company online, but to get paid and get the the truth written in the books - you need legal representation. If you explain that there may be an entire class of people defrauded in the same way, you may not even pay a retainer to that lawyer.
Employment is a contract. I know we complain about all the paperwork involved in being hired, and most of it is to protect your employer, at the very least you should have signed an employment contract. Contract law requires that all parties to a contract be furnished with a copy of said contract(s). Hit them where is hurts, for wages, pain and suffering and court costs. Why let anyone get away with defrauding you? -
No, but they likely will get audited. Once that happens all those edits will be giant red flags the auditor will see. There is no why for the company to hide the original. It's just not shown on the ELD. It is shown on the back end log reports.
A few is ok, but when a company has 100's of edits in 6 months, and only 5 trucks they know to look deeper. -
E-logs are not a new thing with your larger carriers, they have been using them for years. They already know what they can & can't do & how to maintain minimum compliance & maximum productivity.
There is a lot of monkey business going on with logs still, thats a fact. Moving events, driving at low speeds to avoid activation, changing driving time in urban areas to give more time to destination. Parking in staging areas at customers so you can work during your 10hr break. Using loaners without logging in to deliver loads from terminals. Convenient unit break downs when paper is needed etc..
A large company will have a big enough pool of pristine reports & backrubs for the auditors to keep doing business as usual & will throw drivers under the bus when needed. -
I agree I tried to work for this crook within two weeks truck broke down 5 times. He doesn't follow DOT regs. His equipment is not safe and he didn't even wanna drug test me before putting me out on the road.He doesn't know the business he stays at home and tries to run his driver to death. Also he takes fuel costs out of your percentage I have never heard of a fuel cost on the driver if your just a company driver. He didn't pay me my last pay.Stay away for JL settles Limited.period
