What do other fleet owners do in regards to hiring a driver that feels the need to carry a firearm in the truck?

First time it has come up here just wondered what others have thought or done, and before this gets political I believe firmly in the second amendment, but I personally have never carried or felt the need to, thx in advance.

Yeah, I know, guess I'm just a little conflicted over a person's right to protect themselves and the companies liability if he/she does?

I wouldn't have a problem with it as long he was responsible .

I'd rather deal with the consequences if he needs it as opposed to explaining to his family why I thought he shouldn't have means to protect himself.

What about missed loads? We got a driver with a dog and she has been turned away a few times. No military loads?

If they are broadcasting that they are carrying a gun that is not smart. That is only going to attract trouble. What is your policy?

You know the lanes you run. Any territory where SHTF from time to time and a gun may be necessary? Or are you hauling hay from a field to a farm? Downtown new car deliveries in the night time in some sketchy neighborhoods?

If you know the prospective driver well enough that they would carry legally and only use when absolutely necessary / not go looking for trouble in the first place - then I say have at it. That is what it is for. If it's someone you aren't completely sure of, and your lanes are boring, uneventful work, say to him he won't need it so the answer is no. Put pickles on my burger? I said no pickles. Open fire = logical.

Like I said, I have never felt the need to carry, and I used to deliver to some real ####holes years ago, but we really don't get in bad neighborhoods much if at all anymore, I guess my main concern is we do get into the Chicago and Detroit suburbs from time to time, and I know both of those cities do have strict handgun laws.
