There are no best and worst at Landstar.
There is only detention pay. Lots of it. On either end. Now I'm sure there probably are some. But we have direct & indirect customers. I've racked up $700 in detention at four different places since I started 10 weeks ago. Fortunately the big ones didn't impact my pre plans.
Take all day if you want.
I've yet to be anywhere that people didn't get into motion right way, and many times deliver way before my appointment.
The ones where I was delayed and got large amounts, were top customers, and it's just the nature of the freight. They had 0 issue giving the detention, and the others had 0 issue as well.
Now perhaps the carriers customer base has something to do with this. Perhaps just the carrier.
Toward the end of my stint with CRE when I first started, they started doing detention. And they paid it, wasn't much ( $17 ), but it took some of the sting out of some of those places that take 5 hours to unload the truck. This was 12 years ago.
So why would you pull freight for anyone, anyplace that you aren't compensated?
Two hours is a gimme. I have freight bills that have 3, but the line hall is very good, and you know up front what the deal is.
I think knowing up front matters all most as much as getting the money.
Perhaps time to look at the carrier not the customers.

Landstar to me means pasta. As in boxes of Spagetti. Lots of them off shippers associated with them to a third party trucking company. You think I was hauling gold or something the way dispatchers watched those loads.
Does that apply to anything you hauled?Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
I didn’t know you were big ballin back in 2006, but I should have figured.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.
