The best advice I can give is.....be a kid and enjoy it now. Worry about trucking when the time comes.

Oh, you can get your CDL at 18.

Yes at 14 lots of things will change in your life and in the trucking industry, the advice of just being a kid and enjoying yourself is very good advice. But in the process of enjoying yourself do remember that things you do at a young age can follow you for a long time.So keep your nose clean so to speak, any accidents, tickets or legal trouble you may get in while having whats seems like "harmless fun"can really come back to bite you later on.

Like others have mentioned, enjoy being a kid, keep an eye on the industry, and worry about it when the time comes. There are a lot of things that may change between now and the time you are old enough.

Stay out of trouble and keep your driving record clean once you can start driving a car.

I wanted to be a truck driver by time I was your age, because my dad drove. I finally got around to it when I was 31 years old.

You can get your CDL at 18 and drive within the state you live in. The trick is finding a company that will hire you before the age of 21. As you get closer to the age of 18, start looking around for companies that will be willing to put you to work before getting the license.

Yep, keep your nose clean. No tickets and no goofing off, you want to keep that DAC report squeaky clean.

In the mean time, if your school offers any shop classes, take them. When I was your age we had metal and wood shop. Took shop classes all the way through high school. They really helped out here, because they made you think and you get to use your hands.

    Good luck to you!

I had a pressure washing business and my son was driving a Mercedes straight truck (under 26,000 GVWR ) with a 3,000 lb. washer on his own when he was 16 years old (intrastate in MA but he'd go into the Chelsea produce market and wash benches, the patio , and vehicles at the Boston Aquarium ) . That was over 15 years ago . I got a lot of compliments on his work then and from employers he has had since . Young workers shouldn't be underestimated .

Wasn't that the way when we were kids? I had friends that had their own businesses in high school. My family had two. A few of these kids were doing better then their parents, income wise. I don't see that anymore, but I am not in high school either.
