Is there anyway to findout what trucking companies have filed since say 2007 to present? Is there a way as well to find out which ones have closed as well? It would be nice to see that on here for us drivers so we can stay abreast of whats going on since alot of these companies seem to be filing and lieing to thier drivers about it, plus it would help those that are looking to switch or those that are coming into the industry for the first time. thanks

Not sure if there is an actual list, but there are quite a few articles that have been posted regarding individual companies that have filed, closed, been bought, etc. Some of those should show up in a search. Interesting question. Requires thought and research.

This is a list of Ch. 11 cases in 2007 and 2008 where the debtor's name contained the words Shipping, Truck, Trucking, Trucker, or Transport. There are many, many more (thousands) Ch. 7 and 13 cases during this period where the debtors' names are indivduals d/b/a/ Joe's Trucking (for example).

Add JEVIC to the list--I can vouch for that one

Jevic filed chapter 13 though, didn't they? Chapter 11 allows a company to stay in operation and reorganize their company. Thats why companies like "Greatwide" are on the list, but still in operation.

It wouldn't be of much use to know what companies filed chapter 13 like Jevic since they aren't there. The companies on that list are ones who have had problems for whatever reason, and are still out there hiring drivers and hauling freight.

Also remember, just because a company files chapter 11 doesn't mean you shouldn't work for them. There is the possibility of it going out of business, but they also have the opportunity to reorganize and make a stronger company. Many large companies have filed in the past and are now financially viable companies.

    Just something to think about.

There's a post I made I think on page 1 of this thread that tells how many companies closed the 1st 3 quarters of this year.
