Looking at the Dyno sheet today from my engine overhaul a while back and I don't understand the torque reading 8259 lb-ft. I thought I remember the mechanic saying there was a formula to convert it to lb-ft but the sheet states it's in lb-ft.
    Anyone familiar with this?

That number gets divided by your gear ratio in your rears. Also the diameter of your drive tires gets factored in there too. Not sure the exact science behind it but yours looks on par with a good running 550.

Luwi67, MagnumaMoose and SAR Thank this.

basically the torque number is off because they didn't do the calculations for final drive ratio. (rear end ratio tire size and transmission ratio.

Thanks guys, axle is 3.70 with 11R24.5. Don't know the trans ratio off hand but it's a RTLO16713A. They put the lo-nox file in it for warrantee.
Yes overhaul was done in 04. I've got only 300k on it. Seems like yesterday though.

First two numbers are torque rating, so 1650. A design is low then a c in ratio. Google Eaton and it will show ratio on your rtlo a.

When we calculate final drive ratios tire size doesn’t matter, that only affects wheel speed, doesn’t change gear ratio.

I hear what your saying but I don't totally agree. Tire size will effect how the truck spins those rollers. There must be a formula for the dyno operator to get a true torque number and tire size has to be in it... but I've been wrong before.

I'm going to call finning tomorrow and ask there main dyno guy.

Torque is force, tired size equals speed and only equaled to rpm in this manner.
Now the more rpm you have the greater the torgue at the wheels.
