I was just wondering if I could hook up an extension cord to my 3000W pure sine wave inverter to my block heater. I have a Tripac Evolution on the truck. It warms the engine itself but would it be beneficial to hook up the block heater to my inverter and let the APU warm the coolant as well as run the block heater?

Block heater uses 1500 watts good idea I have mine hooke up that way but I have a 6000 watt generator

The inverter could definitely output it but I don't think my APU could keep up with that much draw. I can't run a microwave without the batteries dying and the APU not keeping up.

The TriPack doesn't have a big enough alternator to keep up with the 12V amp draw of the inverter using that much power constantly.....

That's where a generator based APU would be better.

You can also get a 12v diesel fired coolant heater from Eberspatcher or whatever they're called. That would be the best option for keeping that coolant hot overnight

    86scotty and Roteck Thank this.

What engine block heater do you have? Do you have a stand alone APU? I'm trying to get a block heater for the truck engine since the stand alone does not heat the engine.

my question is this... your apu heats the coolant why do you want to use a block heater to do the same thing

Yep, Tripac flows it's own engine's coolant through the truck coolant loop, at least mine does. No block heater necessary.
