Could be a loose wire, sensor going bad, or just the gauge. I wouldn't think the turbo was going out... and of coure it could just be normal for that truck...

WallyGator Thanks this. -
it's a 1995 3406e if that matters? Thanks Walt

I have a 98 Peterbilt with a 3406E. When I bought it the boost gauge was erratic and I could sometimes hear a ticking sound that I thought was coming from the engine. I had all kinds of worrys about what it was, it turned out the gauge was no good. Put in a new one and solved both problems

The gauge, like what was said above, is the most likely problem. But lets not forget that some gauges have boost air plumbed to them.

Mine was doing that, the line going to the gauge had a small hole rubbed in it from the firewall. I spliced a new piece of tubing in.
