I finished driver training yesterday, and am starting next week as a regional driver. I had a blast during the otr training week, and had a great trainer for that week. I can't believe I'm finally doing this. Driving an 18 wheeler has been a dream of mine since I was a kid! Any advice from current or past Schneider drivers is always appreciated!
Ps, I got my first feel for Jill during the 2nd week, and I might have cussed at her a few times lol. I don't know if she's better, or that amazing onguard system![]()

Congrats. We had a pumpkin truck in cdl school with the condo sleeper. First time I had seen a condo sleeper...lots of space.Gin86 Thanks this.

be accurate in your trip planning, be on time(to your best ability), dont hit anything. If driving at night and you flash a faster truck over, turn your headlights off instead of flashing brights. Yes I know daytime lights will still be on, but it still sends a signal as those lights are dimmer.
Sipesh, Rocknroller4, Lonesome and 6 others Thank this. -

Sadly no
It's just the regular 4 cylinder.
Thanks! They're pretty spacious sleepers. Plenty of room to store your stuff and move around
I appreciate the tips! I think I'm most nervous about trip planning to make it on time but staying within the hours of service -
Cover your CMS with a plastic bag when driving in winter conditions.
Jill is an idiot, don't listen to her.
Don't play with your phone or piss in a bottle while you're driving, wait until you stop.
Turn your phone off when you're off duty.Gin86 Thanks this. -
What's CMS? I may know it without realizing it, this is the first time I'm hearing this abbreviation. I agree about Jill, but she was decent on my first trip with her. A GPS is in my sight when the money is available. Being a female I won't need to worry about peeing in a bottle while moving lmao. But nonetheless I'm stopping to pee. The phone I'm using purely for music through an aux cord.
Also, would they seriously say something about having a cb radio in there? Imo they should be a requirement considering all the weather conditions we go through along with everything else, especially for newbies. My trainer has a '14 Cascadia and the reception on his was awful. Once I get one I plan to get either a mirror mounted antenna or the side mount on sleeper area. -
CMS is Collision Mitigation System. When they work as they’re supposed to, they’re not bad. But aside from my last truck, I’ve had periodic issues with any unit with a CMS. The lease truck I drove for three years had one that operated flawlessly.
