Hello All,
I will start trucking in a few month and I have a quick question.
Is it a good idea for me to bring my wife on the road with me.As in how respectful is the trucker community?
I really rather not get fired for fighting someone for flirting and disrespecting my wife?
All input would be appreciated.
Bring wife OTR for a year or two

I say there is a bigger chance that you start fighting each other and get divorced, vs her getting harrased.
When you are an o/o with a big sleeper truck and a relaxed routine- it's easier, but being a new company driver and having wife with you 24/7 in a small metal box, its gonna be pretty hardOldironfan, joesmoothdog, homeskillet and 8 others Thank this. -
That's great to hear. I Just don't want anyone to disrespect her. It's alot of crappy people in the world

It can be tough on a relationship. Your job will require you to constantly change your schedule. Eating, driving and sleeping at different times day to day. Is she going to be ablt to stay awake most of the time you are driving so she can maybe sleep when you do? It's not the same as taking an extended road trip in a car. Some days you may have time for several stops and others none at all. It is going to be a heck of an adjustment for you to make on your own. For both of you together all of the time? Think hard about it and discuss it with her.
truadvocate Thanks this. -
The problem I see, in addition to being together 24/7, is that you will have the expense of two people. Six meals a day (even if you share 2 meals per day & buy one each per day) is going to get expensive. Not to mention washing clothes, personal supplies, etc, etc...
I understand the importance of being together, but... there is a LOT you have to seriously think through here. If she was a co-driver & earning an income too, it would certainly ease the financial burden but, if she isnt generating income.....
Honestly, its costs a LOT for one driver to be OTR all the time, but you're doubling your expenses. Its not cheap on the road all the time.truadvocate, stwik and Lav-25 Thank this.
