LMAO....that's what I did too hahaha
Actually, I build a home-made oil catch, placed it in the rear of the cab (inside the fairing), run a hose from the blow-by tube to the "catch-bottle" and then out-tube. Works GREAT!! No more wetness under the truck's belly or inner side of tires.
Used this contraption to measure amount/Worsening of diesel-in-oil issue I was having. One time I trapped 14qts over a 500 mile run <----- eeeeek!! Decided to replace the cracked head at that point.D12 Owner Thanks this. -
I'm at 8.5mpg at 63mph and this past weekend, I burned 170 gals over 1250 miles driving at 70mph most of the way (clock was tight). I guess that would make it 7.4mpg
I get 13.5mpg when bobtailing @ 63 mphD12 Owner Thanks this. -
Pretty good, what year/model/engeine? I can only get about 9 bobtailing and 8.5 empty
-
I have heard of people doing that, it sounds like a pretty neat ideal and it worked if you caught that much. I just extended mine down about a foot which helped but should do that it would really help keep bottom of truck cleaner.
-
Did the truck loose its prime every time you stopped? I would have guessed the rest of the engine would have went but apparently diesel is less harmful then coolant in the oil from what I have read.
-
The manual states that "too much oil/overfill" will result in oil coming out of the blow-by/breather tube.
No loss in fuel prime. Cranked right up every time.
Motor was considered to be in "very good condition" by the mechanic that worked on it - dude said it looked like a 100K-150K engine, considering it's age.
It's a 1998 D12A 425HP
Honestly, I will never know how long the cracked head existed. All I did after I started noticing loss of oil pressure/thinning of oil i.e. fuel dilution was to add 4qts of lucas oil, with 25qts of Rotella 15w40 EVERY 2,000 miles.D12 Owner Thanks this. -
Added that much oil would get expensive quickly but then so is a new head..
-
Expensive? Not really.
1jug lucas = $30
10qt jug 15w40 = $30; therefore 30qts = $90
I have access to waste oil disposal system, so i do my own PM's
I did that 5 times, before i swapped the head. Cost me $4K all in. I just grossed $4,700 running "part-time" since last Wednesday, on 4 loads, all of them less than 10K lbs each.D12 Owner Thanks this. -
Guess thats not bad, you are still running the d12A ?
