San Antonio is a nice area. I had a uncle that lived there for years. The moving process is not fun however. I got empty and I’m heading to the tank wash in Tulare.

I definitely need some advice here! I’m still getting an ok amount of miles but can’t seem to get out of the Midwest! I’ve had quite a few days of driving a short distance and those days just feel like a waste. I have only taken 1 day off in the last 5 weeks and that was because the run had enough time on it to fit a restart in. Today has been very frustrating, 0600 delivery appointment in Missouri, of course I was here early, as of 2030 I am still waiting to be unloaded. What can I do to get out of this cycle? I’ve asked to go west or south, I’ve mostly been running Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, with small amounts of other states thrown in. My first couple of weeks were good, got out to California and ran a couple trips up to Prosser and Hood River. Not so great since getting back east. Sorry for the long rant, just feeling frustrated! I would think that giving them 5 weeks of running I could be given a decent run or two! I’m still happy with the company overall and I’ve been treated fairly well. Thanks for listening!

Just be glad your stuck in the Midwest and not the north east , it gets frustrating at times best thing to do is put your foot down and tell dispatch you want a long run or you just wanna get out of the Midwest for a bit

I find myself living vicariously through you guys. I always wanted to work for IRT and just never pulled the trigger.

I’m going to keep trying! They have a pre plan on me supposed to pick up in Iowa at 0700 tomorrow and I’m more than 400 miles away, and still not empty! I told dispatch earlier in the day that I didn’t see how I could make that especially when I would still have to wash on top of everything else! I never heard back if I’m still supposed to do that run or not! Thanks for the tip!

I would definitely bring it up once you deliver this next load. When I got empty in Kentucky, when I called in , he asked if it mattered where I went next. I said I like it out west. Next load went to Vegas. My first couple of weeks here, I was stuck in the Northeast. It happens. I’m not a fan of the Northeast, but the way I look at it, I’ll take my turn going up there.

As far as the load appointment being scheduled too tight, don’t worry about that. It happens, especially when we’re behind. They will have already checked your hours and distance away when they gave you the load and knowingly dispatched you on it. We have some loads where the appointment time on the load assignment doesn’t mean anything. For example, if you ever go to Laurel, Maryland it will say 0100 for the load time. You might be in Lowville, NY and don’t get there until noon the next day. When you arrive and try to apologize to the shipper for being late his response will be “don’t worry about it, they tell everybody 0100 and that the time is just a default entry that doesn’t mean much”. That one, along with some others are drop/hook so the time isn’t critical.
With that said, we do have some where the appointments are important. You probably won’t be dispatched on anything you can’t make if it’s a time sensitive customer, and if you do, it’s probably because they were all out of options and they know ahead of time you will be late.

I hate to hear you’re stuck in the Midwest quicksand. I’ve been there and know it’s frustrating. I agree with Crossett Driver. You’ll have to keep reminding them that you’re trying to get to another region. Personally, I would be trying to work my way towards Memphis, Murray Kentucky, or Murfreesboro, TN. That way I could ask for a yeast load out of Memphis going to Bakersfield or Houston. A Houston delivery will turn into a dead head to Mission, which then open up the door to more California/Arizona loads from there.

I appreciate the advice! I’m in Sikeston, MO for this delivery and I thought for sure I would be going to Memphis after, it’s just a short drive from here. Instead they sent me a pre plan picking up in Richmond, IN which is 400 miles away and delivering in northeast Ohio. That 1 canceled early this morning and a few hours later gave me the Iowa pickup, that 1 is supposed to deliver in NJ. I just got emptied out, only been here 17 hours since my appointment! I’m going to stay here tonight and I’ll have a restart in at 0600, I’ll call dispatch and see if they still want me to pickup that Iowa load or if I can get something else! I appreciate the words of advice from you all!
