I don’t think it was what the OP was looking for in replies. But he is making good money as a company with Benefits. Why do they always think the grass is greener on the other side ?
ZArmstrong Thanks this. -
Yeah the replies were not what I expected. To be honest I figured the grass was greener because there's so many owner operators that I run into that boast about how much money they are making. This is honestly the first time I've even looked into buying a truck
-
Two simple things. First, owner operators love to talk about how much money they are making, what they never mention is how much of that money they keep. I'm just starting payroll and so far the gross revenue 2 of my owner operators made this week was $15k. Now of that's what they took home that would be nice, but they have all the expenses that come out like insurance, fuel, and truck payment. After that's all said and done i would guess i would cut a check to them for close to $7k
The second and most important thing of all, the only ship that won't sail is a partnership! Keep that in mind when you want to partner up with a friend or someone you've known for a long time.BoyWander, Diesel Dave and ZArmstrong Thank this. -
So after all expenses still 7k? Lol not sure if you were throwing out hypothetical numbers or not??
I guess I have to bug the guy who recently left our company and bought his own truck about what the actual numbers are. He was top rate at $28 but claims he's making far more money running his own truck. I never even heard of getloaded.com before him but he claims he's able to work a 5 day week being home Wednesday night, Friday night, and off Saturday/Sunday making almost double his previous salary. He claims thats after his expenses so what I'm getting at here is that either he's bullshiting me or he's the luckiest owner out there? To profit almost double what he usually makes per week (1800) so profit of 3k+? -
I'm sorry for rambling at this point lol I'll just let this thread die. Yall are right and I'm just having a hard time realizing the truth
-
That $7k would be total for those two drivers, not each.
I've never heard of that load board either. I have relationships with brokers i use all the time and very rarely do i use a load board. If i use a load board it's DAT.
The other thing about teaming most people won't tell you is you would gross the same as if you had 2 trucks. Only difference is you're saving a little in having one truck payment. Insurance will rate you at a higher risk class costing you more, then you're killing the value of the truck and its life that much faster by going team.
Really the best way a team can make money is if it's all going to the same household.ZArmstrong Thanks this. -
Stick to being a company driver.
By the way, when people ask the wrong question as the first question, it shows a possible failure in making.redoctober83, Diesel Dave and ZArmstrong Thank this. -
Unless it is some private carrier, forget about weekends off. That is when freight moves. Perhaps a terminal to terminal operation like FedEx ground or contracting with Estes or Saia, but best case is to keep doing what you are, enjoy the ride.

Something else about partnering up with someone financially is that both families needs gain a louder voice. So your partners wife may get fed up with how things are going, or their kids could need more attention that takes away from the team operation. Or vice versa.
I worked for a friend in construction years ago & it almost killed the friendship. I decided then that the potential consequences of working with or for friends was a bad idea & not worth the risk of losing them.
Keep looking for a better gig. But would 86 the idea of team runs as owner ops.ZArmstrong Thanks this.
