I know I won't be. At best I've got 10 years left in me on the road, and I think we're a lot longer than that from it being mainstream.

I don't think about robot trucks until someone asks about them.

I agree with most that it's a long way off, but IMO, no driving jobs would be safe.

There would still be driving jobs, but with thousands of laid off drivers applying for those jobs, how well would the wages hold up?

Yeah being 26 yrs old and not seeing myself doing anything else besides trucking definitely makes me feel that i will still be driving when these things go mainstream.

Oh well better get into a good LTL linehaul position asap and start stacking now while i still can

Air planes have an auto pilot that flies the plane 95 percent of the time, but airlines still require 2 pilots at all times.

It makes about as much sense as worrying about getting caught in a unicorn stampede, there will never a time when 40 ton trucks are regularly hurling down the road with no driver.

There will be a few prototypes that do this, they will fail in spectacular fashion.

Dude their not investing millions of dollars into unicorn stampedes. I think 40 ton trucks driving themselves is something to take just a little more serious than that

I have no doubt that computer related companies with money to burn and no idea what variables actually exist will spend mountains of money trying to develop the tech, but billions have been spent for decades now trying to make smart phones and pc's that don't freeze up, bleed memory or fall victim to network glitches and hacks; we are still waiting for that success story and those failures don't end with a pile of dead bodies.

Flatbed, I'd like to see the ai strap/chain a load, throw a tarp, or pull over when a tarp starts flapping, or a strap slips or breaks and fix the problem.
Not that I think it'll happen within the next 30 years, or even 50.

Robots can be hacked to turn on their creators. Think of the many dangers. The last thing we need are automated trucks mowing down innocent people. We need to stop robots.
