It all depends on how much on your earnings. Does it make sense comparing the income and being able to make insurance payment? And all your expenses? Mine was 22k being a new authority. 4000 down payment and 1500 month. So yeah 18000 for insurance is not bad AND at 19 years old? Get it done. Youre in a great position and your pops lookin out for ya by giving you his truck. Or go back to school for 2-5 years. 2-5 years you might be the next Lemay. And the coolest thing about is that on one can take that from you. Meaning your truck is paid off.

Your age, state, driving record and type of driving all go into the price. Have you asked another insurance broker for quotes?
-
Get as many quotes as you can. If you can't swing it then you might want to wait a couple years for the rates to come down slightly as you age with experience. Maybe lease the truck onto your dad's MC and get yourself an NTL policy started. That will help give an insurance history when you look for quotes again while you gain experience over the next two years.
I would certainly advise starting your own business versus going to any sort of indoctrination center that will straddle you with lifelong debt you'll NEVER be able to walk away from. Be the system instead of feeding it like a slave. Take full advantage of your father's presence, knowledge and help. Good luck, driver!Epal420 and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
Your lease onto his father's mc idea is good sometimes but I was going to try that but they told him we could do that but we'd be dropped at the end of the year.DSK333 Thanks this.

Interesting. Might be a good idea to shop around through a decent insurance agent.

Yeah what he said. No truck payment can make it doable. I'm 24, been driving since I was 21. Worked construction for my buddies dad doing old school timber-frame post and beam houses/barns while in high school up til I got my cdl.
My dad and grandpa were both o/o so I said screw it will try it and here we are now almost 4 years later and don't plan on giving it up
Go luck kid you'll probably do fine with your dad to learn from -
They are decent if your 55 and not 22, age was their big problem with me apparently.DSK333 Thanks this.

Auto coverage prices male drivers under 25 hire than those over 25. It's the same thing with truck drivers, except the truck is a bigger risk than a car.Brettj3876 Thanks this. -
I think he pays just over 5000 yr for him with 2m liability/cargo/damage but he has old mc/dot been in business since 1982
