If in fact you are required to do logs and are not exempt, and are still allowed to use paper logs, remember to keep the previous 7 days on hand. You have a 14 hour clock that does not stop. (If you start at 6am you must be 100% done working by 8pm NO MATTER WHAT and then off for 10 hours.) Log and perform pre-trip inspection on your vehicle, take a 30 minute break within the first 8 hours of work by moving your line up to the off duty status (suggested that the 30 minute break be closer to the 7 or 7.5 hour mark), you may not drive more than 11 hours in your 14 hour day and your status must be up to date every stop.

Nope. One can work 100 hours legally. One simply cannot drive after 14 hours. Remember all the restrictions deal with limiting drive time. Sure on duty and off duty affect drive time, but are not limited by HOS.

You're always keeping me in check. I like it. So what about the 60/70 hour rule?

    06driver Thanks this.

Same concept as the 14. It does not matter how long one is on duty. If one has hit the 70 hour pont, before they drive they must gain back hours either via recap or, if more beneficial, a full 34 reset.
For example a guy in construction. He's already worked 65 hours since last reset. He can still put in a full fay at the site, but can only drive the first 5 hours. He would need hours back before driving.

Much appreciated. I swear sometimes I know the rules but I forget about exceptions which are just as important. Or even just remembering working vs driving. You rock.
