If you're not going to run out your 11 hours of drive time, it's most efficient to take your mandatory 30 between hour 6 and hour 8 after logging your first on-duty event.

You can take your break as early as hour 5.5. After a 30 minute break, you will have 8 hours before your 14 is up. It's a 2.5 hour window you need to break in, to avoid having to take two.

Unless you qualify for and anticipate the need to use the 16 hour short haul exception. Then you'd need to take it between 7.5 and 8 hours in.

My rule of thumb is, if there is no electronic or paper trail as to what you are doing at any given time, it’s off duty.

    exactly
I log time in dock as off duty especially since the ### a nine hAlf hour break I will show on duty for about 5 or 8 minutes as opening and shutting the doors only will show on duty unless absolutely going to be getting a reset soon and positively won't need hours
