I could back a 53' trailer down the row and get it to your dock. Mainly because with the ramp there would never be a truck to back around. And I may not get perfectly straight but you would be able to work the trailer. But you would never be a place I wanted to go to.

    gentleroger Thanks this.

It looks like the the fed ex truck is a 48 footer or shorter with a day cab.

Could a 53 ft with a sleeper get in there? Yes, but I would make sure to keep the area on either side of the dock clear to give the driver options.

As the gentleman above me said, be ready for most trailers to be crooked in the dock.

If we're talking about typical OTR sleeper trucks and 53 foot trailers? Very few are going to be able to dock there without being off at least 5-10 degrees from square. It's hard to jackknife a trailer and end up square and centered to the dock plate, and looks like that's basically what's going to have to happen.

Many drivers experienced or not, might take 20+ minutes trying to get close enough where the dock plate will reach and remain in place.

If this is your only option and this is going to be an ongoing thing, you'd probably have to build an extension out and allow the trucks to back straight in to that extension.

    I'd have two concerns really.
1 is if that trash is still there or not. If it's there as part of the building and will always be there it will be in the way.
2., As it's not shown in the picture, is how much space is there for a truck to turn around to be able to back down that ally and how much truck traffic does the building get? i.e. will the driver have the 20 minutes to back in if needed and not be holding up 5 other, shorter rigs?

    gentleroger and Lav-25 Thank this.
