Good rule of thumb is this: If its attached to the truck, it should be operational. Don't give the ol' DOT-Dawg a reason to stop you. Like someone already said, this particular item may not be a violation but it might lead to something else.

No, I had a truck that just went through a L1 this morning and they gave it a sticker, but it has two spot mirrors busted by some container truck running next to him on the GWB. We lose more mirror there than any other place.

Id just take it off and replace it as quickly as is possible- especially on the right side, you need it.. D.O.T. always told me "If its on the truck, it has to work".austinmike Thanks this.

I’d buy one of those little sticky mirrors and stick it on the big one and replace the other at your earliest convenience.
