I wonder if Wisconsin will end up having to stop using third party testers too. They do for all licenses other than car and motorcycle right now, and have for years. The third party testers for the school I went through did not cut a person any breaks though. If you screwed up, it cost you. Not everyone passed on their first road test.

Folks, Tony282003 is posting about something that is VERY REAL to him. It has already happened to him and it is going to affect his life, his livelihood and possibly his future. He is new to this forum and came to warn other drivers that might be affected.
I am in TN very close to Millington and at the time the investigation of Swift went down it was BIG and it was UGLY. No doubt many of the Memphis television stations still have archives on the stories that broke locally.
I personally dont have knowledge as to whether what Tony 282003 says is 100% true or not. And fortunately my hubby did not get his CDL from the Millington Swift Driving Academy. So I can breathe a sigh of relief. But as an old school teacher of mine once said .A word to wise is sufficient. If there is a possibility you might find yourself in Tony282003s situation then you should heed the warning and check it out for yourself.
If there is no chance this could affect you then thank your lucky stars and send a prayer up for those who are. -
THANK YOU, HOMETIME!
Guys (and Gals), the point Hometime makes is true: This is REAL and it HAS happened to me, to my fellow Academy friend in Michigan, to 312 other drivers within my state, and I'm sure it will be happening to other drivers nationwide.
NYS DMV feeding me a line to make money? REALLY? Guys, how many of you think that any one of you can just walk into the commissioner's office of YOUR state's department of motor vehicles and speak to the second-in-command? How many of you think that the commissioner him- or herself is going to make phone calls and send e-mails about issues brought up by one lone driver in a state of MILLIONS of licensed drivers? I'm talking about the COMMISSIONER himself - the top command at DMV - the guy that reports DIRECTLY to the governor? I don't mean some local DMV office manager! I made it that far only through my efforts combined with those of my local state assembyman's office!
THIS SITUATION IS REAL AND IT IS GOING TO GET VERY BIG VERY SOON. I AM TRYING TO HELP OTHER MILLINGTON GRADS FROM GOING THROUGH WHAT I DID! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW GRADUATED FROM MILLINGTON BETWEEN MAY 2005 AND SOME POINT IN 2008 WHEN THE ACADEMY STOPPED USING THIRD-PARTY EXAMINERS - PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR LICENSING STATE ABOUT YOUR CDL - AND TELL US WHAT YOU FOUND OUT ON THIS THREAD! WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!
I've already said that there is no press on the issue. I've already said that it's being kept quiet. A Google search on memphis area archives reveals a pecularity - while the Google search turned up Memphis-area television archived pages, all the pages themselves (that i could find) HAVE BEEN DELETED BY THEIR RESPECTIVE NEWS ORGANIZATIONS!
No, I do not know why there is so little info out there. It has to start somewhere and that is why I'm here! I'm trying to get to the bottom of this BUT I NEED HELP.
The facts as I've stated are true: MY license was initially suspended, I lost two days of work, took (and passed) the written test, took another day off from work, and failed the road test. ALL of my commercial driving privileges are revoked for 30 days. I must re-take, and pass, another road test.
I MAY NOT DRIVE A CMV UNTIL THEN.
My employer has been gracious enough to find (non-driving) work for me around our plant until I re-take the road test. So, I am one of the lucky ones. I'm a single father with a beautiful twelve-year-old daughter to support. I need my income and benefits, and so does she.
NO ONE IS FEEDING ME A LINE. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE. THIS IS NOT SOLELY A NEW YORK STATE ISSUE. IF YOU ARE A SWIFT ACADEMY MILLINGTON DRIVER WHO GRADUATED FROM MAY 2005 THROUGH THE END OF 2008, YOUR LICENSE IS LIKELY TO HAVE BEEN OR SOON TO BE SUSPENDED. Don't forget that I said my Academy friend from MICHIGAN also had his license suspended and was quoted the same reasons as I - except that his state is giving him more time to comply.
Anyone out there reading this who doubts my words, I encourage to review all that I've written thus far on this topic. You'll see that I spent A LOT of time mentioning A LOT of details - and that is because I'm trying to establish the validity of what I'm saying.
If I can get the press informed on this, the word will get out. But I need help. I can't do it alone.doubledragon5 Thanks this. -
A related story, but ultimatley not much more information than what I've already posted:
By Tom Bailey Jr. Memphis Commercial Appeal
Wednesday, April 23, 2008
The state wants people who receive commercial driver licenses to be more rooted in Tennessee, the Department of Safety commissioner indicated this week.

I'm still looking for television archives and any current info. I only have dial-up internet and it's very slow to searchLast edited by a moderator: Jan 11, 2009

Again... Your beef needs to be with the State of Tennessee. Swift has nothing to do with this crackdown and from what I can see, has done nothing illegal.
-
Really, "Biker"? How is Tennessee solely at fault? Maybe for not better supervising their third-party testing program, administered by SWIFT employees?
There are a number of individuals, government agencies, and others at fault here. It's my understanding that the FBI investigation is ongoing. But don't try and tell me that there was no impropriety on the part of Swift or Swift Academy management either - when Swift employees administer the road test, it opens up the door to the possibilty of "greasing palms" and a host of other misconduct.
The end result is that I and many others like me paid $3900 for a license that was ultimately invalidated. The exact parties at fault have yet to be determined.

The State of Tennessee is cracking down on residency requirements. In other words, a loophole allowing students to gain temporary residency (via the hotel) in order to get their license was closed.
Since Tennessee is cracking down on residency requirements, they are notifying other states that the original license was invalid, therfore, the final state, in turn, suspends the license.
Learn to read...... This has nothing to do with Swift, but rather the mechanics of 3rd party testing, the part time DMV on the premises and whether residency requirements were being met.
