A major accident involving two tractor-trailer trucks shut down the New York State Thruway Monday afternoon. According to a representative from the New York State Thruway Authority, the incident occurred at 3:34 and by 3:42 all lanes southbound were closed. The collision took place a few miles north of the Newburgh exit.

All lanes southbound remain closed as of 7:30 PM Monday night and a detour is in place. Anyone traveling southbound must exit the Thruway at exit 18 (New Paltz). The detour will take you down route 9W South, where you can take State Route 32 West to I-84. From there you can rejoin the Thruway and continue southbound.

Suprised there’s not 100’s of these every day as close as all the trucks stay to each other

Holy Sh#t!!!! I've seen trucks tucked under trucks before but nothing like that. He had to have hit with the cruise still set. God rest his soul... Hope it wasn't a team.

Looks like the truck that was hit was a turnpike doubles set. Possibly hauling empty aluminum cans?

If my Scranton to Hartford load wasn't held up today, I'd have had to deal with the mess on I-84 that resulted from this.

We had to have special 48 ft for Marcy Ny. You can see them parked at DCs all over. They have a big sticker of a stop sign on them.

I’ve seen a few carriers running 53 foot doubles on the Thruway (DOT,Gypsum Express just to name a couple examples).
I was going to say from the way that wreck looked possibly platooning gone wrong??
