I hope I am not making a mistake. I live in east Tennessee and there are no jobs in my area. I was looking at the trucking industry as great hope of providing for my family. Am i wrong?:biggrin_25521:

Right now the demand is in cheap labor. And you'll start anywhere from 15% - 35% lower than an experienced driver would. As much as 70% lower, during training.

You'll spend 14-28 days away from home, making $5-700 a week if you're lucky. Subtract a couple hundred for your expenses while you're away. That leaves you with a couple of hundred to send home each week. And 4 days off for every 28 you work.

During training, you'll be lucky to see a paycheck of more than $300 clear.

The bottom feeders will run you as a team with your trainer, at .11 a mile.

Then bump you to .17 a mile as a "co-driver" in a "training team.

Then, if you get lucky. You'll make .25 - .30 a mile as a solo your first 6-12 months.

If you're real lucky, you'll get 2300 miles a week. Maybe 4000 during training.

Do the math, before you go in debt to a company offering to finance your training.

OTOH, nobody trains for anything for how much they will make training. Colleges and Universities would be in it deep if so.

For what it's POSSIBLE to make, your choice is pay out of pocket for at least 4 years of training, or make half pay for 4 weeks of it.
