I agree. There's definitely a learning curve, and TBH, I'm looking forward to driving a stick again.shogun and daf105paccar Thank this.

i hve nuthin against drivers who like automatics. but for me i feel like a trucker with manual, it feels so much more engaging. automatic makes me less of a driver but more like a steerin wheel holder lol i kno lot of u guys can relate to meDave_in_AZ and shogun Thank this.

Manuals are a better, more efficient and more durable product in hands of a professional. Everyone knows that. But what good is that to a fleet? They bought autos so they could slip seat new hiresPaddlewagon, johnwayne187, Dave_in_AZ and 2 others Thank this.

Nobody ever said the 6NZ made miracles in stock form. Besides, the real miracle of a 6NZ is it’s durability. Let’s compare total cost of operation on that Paccar engine and it’s auto trans 17 yrs from now.....or even 17 months from now lol. I’ll venture a guess your son will have been through 6 trucks by thenLast edited: May 18, 2018

the Detroit DT 12 transmission is nice. Going down hill you lock it to the speed you want and it hold the truck very good without brakes.
striker and Trucking in Tennessee Thank this. -
I will say after 30+ years of electrical work and trucking, snapping my wrist twice cause of heavy torque drills binding, doing local work with a 10 and a 13 was more than a bit painful at times, and an auto would have worked well there.
Let alone doing 3 hours of stem wall with that old Pete manual mixer. It had 2 gears below 1st, but you wanna talk about a left leg work out. -
local work. I'll give you that but IIRC I think the ECM printout on my '98 says 98% in high gear......an automatic needed for OTR....LOL really?Last edited: May 18, 2018
