I GUESS i should have been more detailed; We don't lease trucks, we buy them outright.

We pay CASH for all of ours and wear them out.
I put 1.7 on my last truck before getting this #$*! Freightliner I'm in now.
Got it in March '16 and I've got 347k on it now.
I guess an average age of 10 years before they sell them of to local buyers.
We take care of them so they don't look junky even at the end of their cycle.

i guess my 386 pete is a little on the high side of things. it has 700 K miles on it, its a 2006. its in the shop today for tires, PM, inaccurate temp gauge readings, and A/C service (hopefully). other then the occasional service its actually a pretty good running truck. as far as newer trucks being more reliable? maybe in the first 4 years as said but after that the emissions equipment starts to break down and the truck becomes much less reliable. the expense of replacing a DPF system..... NOT CHEAP.

It just depends on the company and the truck...some companies will only run a truck until the warranty runs out...other companies will run a truck (if it's not too much of a problem) until the wheels fall off.

Another thing to consider when it comes to trade cycles of fleets is how much they don’t have to do by being on an aggressive trade cycle. Yes, new trucks can have problems, any truck can. But for the most part other than changing oil all they’re doing is running the truck. When they’re traded off it is likely that the truck will have the original oil in the trans and rears, original starter and alternator, original batteries, etc. And that is a huge cost savings to a large fleet.
