Do you think the day will come where DOT will be able to have a database of all the trucks on the road and if you were to have a HOS of service violation they could see that on their computer and send you a ticket in the mail? Or they could have a map that displays all the trucks in violation and chase them down. That would be scary.

FMCSA deploys military drones to enforce ELD mandateRockinChair, rabbiporkchop, Gunner75 and 7 others Thank this. -
I think at some point the DOT will be so wired in that your truck will have a transponder. Once you cross it and it gets interrogated that scale house officer will have everything about you to pop up on a computer screen. CDL and Medical status. Time since starting day and maybe even load information. Ever get to sit and watch what a DOT COP watches when a prepass passes by and you will start to understand how much big brother will be doing very soon. As to getting tickets in the mail, I kind of doubt that but if this kind of system goes into effect by the time you get parked the cop will have the inspection report and ticket almost finished printing.

While they have the ability to, I doubt they will ever have a will power to.
Some quote I read somewhere, to paraphrase, "The quickest way to a revolution is to strictly enforce all laws."
Basically it's one of those "It's fine as long as I don't get caught every time I go 36 in a 35 mph zone." issues. And even though it's for those evil truck drivers (common perception) companies like Swift, Werner, etc will never allow it to be law. They thrive on the shady areas. I.E. logging off duty at the DC and slowing rolling to a dock 5 hours in the break.... If that movement is actually tracked and tickets given out, well... Like the drowsiness test in, I believe, MN it will quickly get shot down. -
The dot rule always mandated you must keep 6 months of logs stored at your home place of business.
Now since Elogs your logs are not stored at your home place of business but on some third party’s server somewhere if cyber space.
Also all your logs from day one are now stored for ever more not just your last six months like as required by law.wore out Thanks this. -
So if you are SO afraid of it, don't do it.
Stop driving a truck, or drive it legal.
Such cry babies... -
Not only that, I still like to believe there is a human factor it. Does the officer give the truck and the driver a quick look over, he can see company scorecard and inspection times and results on the computer, should he focus on just that information? What if the driver is obviously tired? By the same token, if someone is fine but had no choice but to color outside the lines a little a couple days back, is that really a big deal? If your lucky number comes up and they get you... it's just your time. Relying completely on computer generated data will not improve safety. You really will teach drivers they are tired when the box says so. So what is the ultimate goal here, again?
