    Hello,
My name is David Hunt and I currently live in Pelham, AL. As stated I was raised in a trucking family with over 10 trucks on the road at times. I am looking to get back into the business and have the "recent experience issue". I would like to work with a O/O who would like to have someone in their equipment who will take care of it asif it were their own. I have performed in-frames, clutches and many other technical operations on OTR equipment throughout the years. I have the knowledge and experience to operate, maintain, troubleshoot and/or repair your equipment if needed. I understand what the expense is like to replace a tire or have my equipment pulled out from being stuck to the frame due to someone else's lack of concern for my equipment. I would do my absolute extreme best to keep you out of these types of situations. I have had my class A's for over 20 years now and would like to to take a chance on someone taking a chance on me. If anyone has some solid advice or information please advise. Please keep those comments to yourself as I am a professional asking other professionals for advice not Mr Obvious ######## responses. Thanks for any information, help and respect in advance..
    Dave Hunt

    Just being stupid.

    Welcome to the forum, chillfactor2.

The rate limiting step will be insurance. They like to see "recent experience". A straight up independent will likely have to pay a premium due to that. You may have some luck at a smaller company who will appreciate your mechanical skills and has nice equipment worth driving. 389 or w9. They are out there but it's all word of mouth mostly. Perhaps someone who knows your area can point you in the right direction.

    Mudguppy Thanks this.

I think someone with your experience driving and working on trucks would be a huge asset to any company. The recent experience thing is a hurdle ,but the current status of your license(violations, suspensions etc) ,medical card background check, would be a bigger factor . A DMV check and a road test will let a prospective employer know right away if your worth taking a chance on.
Honestly ,many drivers have no clue how a truck works and won't change a headlight or mud flap themselves on the road. The problem with having skills as a mechanic and driver is some people will abuse that ,and after a while you'll regret driving someone's truck and then busting your ### working on it. I know employers love guys who can drive and work on trucks ,but also know drivers who regret ever telling their employer they're a mechanic also, because they get the "hey can you fix, this or that " . And at first you don't mind ,but after a while it gets old ,unless your compensated extra to work on trucks.
I would check the Craigslist ads in your area. Most jobs on there are on there for a reason ,they can't find drivers because the pay/ work sucks ,but sometimes a quality company will post a job there. You wear two of the most
Sought after hats in the industry a experienced diesel mechanic and an experienced (at one time) Class A driver.
Most companies are hurting for both.
    Good Luck!
