I am sorry to ask this if it is a ridiculous question.
How do you get paid from these places? I am just confused how you would get paid from a load board.
I picture saying...yeah I will take it..only to hook it up and deliver the dang thing and never see a penny.
Also what is the average amount of time before you do get paid?
Thanks a ton for any info. It sucks to be such a rookie.

It's a good question , especially with things the way they are now . There is no guarantee you will get paid . Even the most experienced O/O's have been getting stiffed lately . Your best bet is to check the credit rating of the broker and try to use established brokers like Landstar .
I know one O/O that recently had a broker disappear and not pay for two loads from the same shipper . The O/O had a good relationship with this shipper and the shipper ended up paying the O/O for one load even though the broker had already collected on it .
Brokers have you sign a contract agreeing not to directly contact the shipper . I know some O/O's that exchange shipper contacts . The contract can't prevent you from having another O/O contact the shipper directly . They don't do this with brokers that are reputable and treat them right but shady brokers end up losing shippers . A group of hotshotters at Uship started a website to exchange load info . Members must have a valid MC number to access the site . -
you have your confimation, you deliver, fax a copy, and, or mail in origialsalong w/ an invoice, they have up to 45 daz 2 cut u a check
now most of us use a freight factoring company who pays in about a week and take a cut. the 1 i used garenteed i would get paid, even if they get stiffed by the broker -
Do you have to sign a contract with a factoring company or can you just use them for say, every other load for your first couple of months?

The brokers doing the truckers bad are truck brokers. Freight brokers "property brokers, pure brokers" Have both parties"shipper and carriers" interest at heart or they won't stay in business. Truck brokers use their broker side to finance their trucking side. Their interest is to sell high to the shippers and as cheap as possible to the truckers they broker thier excess out to. Their trucks run with a profit and they broker to carriers for really cheap and still take the profit. A pure freight broker" or a broker with no asets just his brokerage" wants the highest prices he can get out of the shippers "good for the truck industry" and the best trucking company he can find that is reliable and liquid that he can count on again and again and HE IS WILLING TO PAY FOR IT! Dump the big truck companies selling you scrapes. Dump the big top heavy logistic companies taking your profit. Find a good freight broker who only brokers freight and stay with them. GOD bless go pull someone from the fire.
