i am a tandem dump truck driver and was recently sent in a road tractor from Cartersville Ga to Nashville to pick up a driver and his load. I wasn't told by my company that I had to maintain a log book on this run. I was stopped at the scale house on I-24 and was given a violation. With some research, I found I received 5 points on my CSA! I was running bobtail, should I have still got the violation? I read about exemptions and it was saying something about exemptions if you're not transporting goods or passengers, I'm confused, please help

You were driving at the direction of the motor carrier, why do you think you didn't need a log? Of course you do.

In a commercial vehicle going more than 100 nautical miles away from the terminal. Log book required. Lucky he didn't make you take a 10 right there.

The exemptions you speak of are only if under the 100 miles.

    Shouldn't it be 7 points x 3 for that violation ?

And csa points go against your carrier , psp score is for the driver.

The only time I've seen bobtails getting away with this is when they're "not for hire"

Your company will get CSA points on their rating, it will show up on your PSP if a potential employer checks it, but you will not have any points.

You got those points times 3 for this year.
    If it's 5.. then it's 15.
    Next year 10
    Final year 5
It's their way of punishing the working man.

PSP won't show the points but the driver does get points. That's why they're counted for 3 years. We just have to do investigating to find out our points.
They're only counted for 2 years towards the companies.

I wonder how the companies find the points when hiring new drivers.

The only points are the ones that stay with the carrier. All that the PSP will show (if the company you’re trying to get hired at even checks it) is your accident and inspection history. Drivers don’t get points.

Screw it, if your not getting fired don’t worry about the CSA boogeyman.

Keep a log next time....just in case. If you have any reasonable doubt, take the safe method.
