They used to. Decades ago. Here is a load to Cali, due ten days, call me if there is a problem or when you arrive. There is a bunch of western union telegrams to collect your pay every monday, fuel card, cash money for whatever, don't spend it all and get a receipt. Be there in the morning.

In those days you were there in 6 and spend then next 3 walking the beaches for fun.

I've been told that I make crap $$$ at the rate per mile that I'm getting.... And yet I make nearly $1500 most weeks. And still have a few hours left on my 70, and I do my 34 reset at home. So which is it??? Is more than $1200 a week as a company driver decent $$$ or is it crap $$$???

sounds like better money to me, but if we do the math... 1500 x 50... assuming you take two vacation weeks off... 75k a year. Now you are above the "average income" for this country, but it takes almost 70 hours per week to make that. Wonder how many hours it takes for the "average" person to make the "national average" income? Bet it's not 70... If you take that pay down to a 40 hour work week, you drop back below "average" at 42k per year. Again, it's not the eld that limits your ability to make money. It's the hours of service and the fact that employers expect you to work 70 hours in 8 days, to make the same "average income" that ppl working a 40 hour week make. Plus you do it in a hazardous environment... we deal with 4 wheelers who are clueless and rude, we deal with trucks breaking down and killing us, we deal with hazmat materials, we are out away from our families for weeks at a time, missing valuable moments of their lives...

I'm not saying this is a bad job or that the pay sucks, but arguing for working more than 70 hours just seems to me to be asking to be treated like a slave.

I don't know about everyone here, but I can work with that pay. You're doing fine for yourself in my mind

I forgot to add in all the time that could be given away "free"... like trip planning, ppl logging waiting at the dock as off duty, etc...

Oh! and that 70 is just driving, right? so how many days do you do the whole 14?

I had one boss tell me. I"m a trucker. I live in the truck. It's what truckers do.

I said, NO. This trucker goes to work and goes home. And your truck is not my home.
