My truck is an '89. Not sure now similar it is to yours.

There's a cluster of wires on the drivers side frame rail close to the cross member behind the transmission. A pair of wires for the air dryer (242/239), a single wire for power to the backup switch (242), and a single wire for an aux trans temp sender (241). I'm using the 241 wire for trans temp in stead of the 59 wire on the engine harness since it leads better.

I found all this when I was rewiring the air dryer. The single 242 wire was led to it and power to the reverse switch was coming off the starter solenoid. There's a single wire to the back for the reverse lights, I haven't found a wire in the original harness that is supposed to be used for that but I also haven't gotten too far into that part of the wiring. I'm redoing the engine harness at the moment.

I can now confirm there is no switch. Only that slotted plug that has been posted in pics by other guys in this thread. The switch is $15. Thanks everyone for the help on this so far

Reverse lamp installed. Found a All in one LED as suggested by @GrapeApe and @Luwi67. got the transmission switch suggested by @Hogleg from the local truck parts store and wired it From a keyed breaker on the panel like he said. Thanks to all that replied and sleep well tonight knowing that the world is a safer place now that I’m compliant with 393.1. Thank you too Officer Spak*

I do like being retired, my stress level is way down to nothing. Haven't even talked to a DOT man in 2 years.

Funny my 1980 never had a reverse light switch on the transmission. 3/4 of my dad's trucks never had them either. I'm thinking that most cops just want to see that there is some form of illumination facing rearward. Whether it be a switch on the transmission or a seperate switch on the dash.
