Who knows, he may have been a heroin addict. Never say never, and never second guess God. When it is your time, it is your time. RIP.

That is a very sad situation, but you make a good point about taking care of yourself and, more importantly, seeking help if you do think something may be wrong. I have my own experience in this matter. I was a healthy 26 year old when i found out i had cancer. It was a very dark and difficult time for me, but i would likely be dead now if i hadn’t sought help when i did. I am now almost 33 and married with two kids. It worked out for me, but sadly it doesn’t for a lot of people.

Try being an owner and have someone die in your truck, been there a few times.

I am critical about health, I don't ask drivers to take a break, I demand it. Many other owners and companies push drivers to their limits and the drivers don't know they can say no and they don't take care of themselves to begin with.

Every one of the cases with drivers expiring in one of my trucks had to do with past medical conditions and in many ways even though I hate the dot medical regs, it can prevent more deaths in the cab.

Sometimes you have an off switch that gets tripped with no warning. Your brain can have a misfire and fail to activate your heart and you're gone, just like that, no warning. I had a friend pass in her at 27. She was in fine health, overweight but had good blood pressure and no previous conditions. She has dinner with her family like she always did, and felt fine. Watched movies with the family, like she always did and felt fine. She says goodnight and goes to bed.

the next morning her father notices her car is still in the driveway when he gets up to go to work. He goes into her bedroom and sees that she is still sleeping peacefully. He goes to wait her up and shes cold to the touch. She looked totally at peace, there was no evidence that she struggled, thrashed about, or fought to live. She just simply.....stopped.

Im terrified about passing away in a truck. Ive seen way too many guys getting pulled out of the sleeper in a sheet. I lost 40 pounds this year and started eating better. I came off the road and am now driving local, because I know that I cant stay healthy out on the road. I miss it, but I want to live as along as I can. Some people can handle it fine. I cant. Ive always had to put more work in being healthy than a normal person should.

The co2 thing scares me as well. especially when you constantly have an APU sending fumes right at your sleeper door or window.

If I ever find anything out, I will certainly update but I doubt I ever will. I think we can rule out carbon monoxide as the dog was fine. In a sad way going in to sleeper berth and the up elevator at the same time is probably a better way to go than most of us deserve. In the meantime, the 4 wheelers ain't botherin me as much and the rain sure is fine.

You would have to have the APU running inside your cab and then MAYBE you’d croak after a good long time. It would be more likely for the diesel to consume all the oxygen in the cab and suffocate you. Diesels don’t put out nearly as much CO as a gas engine.

Now someone running a gasoline generator next to you? Yep, better be worried. A small gas engine can put out over 1200 ppm which will kill you in minutes if the air is still enough.

Maybe the guy had a heart attack or a brain aneurysm? Happens all the time to people who feel just fine.

I have a friend who was the epitome of fitness. Walked just about everywhere, everyday in our town. Played basketball with him frequently. Warming up to play one evening at the local middle school, dropped dead right there on the court of a massive heart attack.

There are certainly a lot of things we all could and should do preemptively, however, when your number is up, well, it's up.

Long story short. I was having a chat with my father and he said he needed to go to the restroom. He asked if I'd watch the old folks (grandmother had alzheimers, great uncle was deaf and blind). I said sure. About 40 minutes go by and I had to get back to school. I knock on my parents bedroom door. No answer. I knock again, and slowly enter the room to see my Dad on the his back on the ground. He was already foaming a bit at the mouth. I start giving him CPR and mouth to mouth while I call 911. My Mom comes in and makes a noise no human should ever hear. The sound of ultimate suffering. My parents were in love even after 30 years of marriage. My Dad was fit and healthy. He was 63. He had a blood clot get stuck in his aorta and his heart exploded.

I'd rather die alone in a truck or whatever and be found by people I don't know than to have my son go through that.

On second thought I'd actually rather die "loving" my wife...just so I could ruin her for the next guy. :D
