I'm in the same boat as you right now as far as getting my cdl. I use to be dead against company sponsored programs until a seasoned veteran driver bent my ear for a little. The benefits of a company sponsored course are employment guarantee, no money upfront, and learning how they want to teach you ( which can also be a negative). It is my opinion that not all sponsored programs are good or bad for that matter, and that the success of the student depends a lot on ourselves as students. I personally believe that I want to stay with the company I start with for at least 1 year so the contract doesn't really bother me. I'm more worried about getting the proper schooling and training to have a successful career. The general consensus is do what works for you.

Calex Logistics runs coast to coast, but not sure about taking the dog. Call and ask.
They do lots of California runs & I've seen their trucks in Las Vegas.

I don't think it makes a difference...chances are that your going to leave your first company after a year either way. The first year is all about getting experience. Nothing else.

YOU pay all of it yourself some way.
YOUR CDL, Endorsements, TWIC, Fast pass, Hazmat etc etc etc (This will generate additional fees and in person interviews with TSA and Homeland security among other things)
Get your money together. And a whole lot of it.
Why?
Trucking is not a sure bet. Each day you are employed as a trucker is a earned day. Anything can happen at any time to cause you to lose your job. Sometimes against you for cause. (Preventable) And to be stuck with that debt still to pay and due? That's terrible.
So. Pay it up cash yourself, get the cdl done clear and no debts.
If you have two million dollars, buy trucks and be the one who hires people to work for you. Expect to have a small fortune of 200,000 dollars at Christmas he he he.
