Does this actually happen?

I don't think anybody here is defending this practice, with 28 years experience a person should be looking at retirement, not a job.

 

If a company offers a bus ticket to a recruit prior to doing a background check and sight unseen (no face to face interview),... it might be a bottom feeder.

 

This isn't a case of being cheated or being screwed. This is one side of a story. Can/does it happen as stated? Sure, but more often its "here's your bus ticket", then they miss the bus. Or, "you can't fire me, I quit!" and they storm out indignantly.

 

I don't care if they show up drunk. The onus should be on the billion dollar company to do an interview (in person or online) and a background check before inviting a recruit to come across country. If they're not gonna do that then they can at least pay for the unacceptable candidate's trip home

 

I was thinking more in terms of possibly cannibal or to a lesser extent Sith Lord! LMFAO

 

This is exactly why the blame lies entirely with those who find themselves taken advantage of. I'll bet that if you told them what they were in for, and not to accept the offer to get on the bus, they'd go anyway.

 

Hell how many people come on here and are warned "don't go work for CRST" but they go anyways cuz
1) They are smarter than everyone else
2) it can't be that bad, I'm a strong willed person
3) what do a bunch of whiney truckers know?

Blame and such goes both ways, company is a crap-hole for a reason, and can only attract those that don't know better or are ignorant.

 

How many different times can I say that they will provide transport home? In each of these cases there is another side of the story.

There was a woman who came to orientation and was let go for skill(s) issues. She was given a bus ticket first to where she came from, then when she missed ger bus we got another ticket to a different location at her request. The next week she was seen hanging around the drivers lounge , and was escorted off the property. This occured a couple of times before the police were brought in. The woman claimed that we stranded her in Green Bay with no money and no transporation. We bought her two tickets, how much more responsible can we be?
