Good to hear you are doing fine with the alignment part. The part of the alignment that I struggle with, is setting the IF gain properly. I don't have an AF VTVM and when it comes to adjusting RV1 (Cobra 29, 25, etc.) at the end of the alignment for the IF stage, I seem to struggle with it. The service manuals says to set it for 2 volts which sounds simple enough. The problem is that I can't always get the output to 2 volts. For a cobra 25 they say to set the volume half way, well sometimes I can't get the 2 volt setting even with the volume completely up. Since I don't have a AF VTVM, I'm just hooking my DMM to an external microamp meter with an 8 ohm 20 watt resistor (for the load) plugged into the external speaker jack. There's a few utube videos that talk about adjusting the IF gain, but they don't demonstrate it. Some guys just adjust it by ear while plugging and unplugging the antenna coax from the back of the radio. That doesn't seem very professional to me. I even sent Lou Franklin, and the CB Doctor an email about it...but no reply. Can't really seem to adjust it using a sinad meter. Unfortunately in my area, there aren't any cb techs around to inquire about it. I guess I could try using my o'scope, it shouldn't load the circuit down much I wouldn't think, just to get an AC reading.

You don't need a vtvm, any analog meter should work,

You can find some halfway decent stuff pretty cheap if you know where to look.
    Here's a Tektronix SC504 80MHz Oscilloscope with Tektronix TM 504 Main frame

    Here's a Tektronix 2246 100MHz 4 Channel Oscilloscope

    Here's a HP 8640B Signal Generator

Here's a pretty rudimentary bench but it was capable of very precise measurements.

Here's a nice manual sweep audio generator without a frequency counter.
At least it's new with a certificate of calibration and very low total harmonic distortion.

    Instek GAG810 Audio Generator
