I’ve looked through numerous threads and posted a couple about what to ask recruiters and what to expect when talking to recruiters, but what can you expect when talking to them on the phone for the first time? Is it like an interview? If it goes horribly on your end and you don’t hear back from them or doesn’t lead to a job will they remember you later on if you applied there months later and talked to their recruiters again? Any pointers for handling a phone call with a recruiter for the first time, and does it look bad if you opt to text or email instead of call or if you don’t answer the call the first time they call?

Some of these people just work from their home , nowhere near the business. They dodge questions about trucks, etc. They are just trying to get an app out of you to do a background check. They are like a secretary or screener. If you look half decent and no red flags they pass it to safety.

Recruiters are trying to do exactly that. Recruit.
The way I see it, you are doing reconnaissance. In talking with the recruiter you should be doing the interviewing and asking all of the questions that you want to know especially about pay breakdown pay layover pay detention pay mileage pay percentage pay vacation time Home time, etc.
Keep track of what they say in like the other person said let them send you written confirmation on the pay and what they're going to promise you because the recruiters will lie because their job is to recruit.
Your job is to interview them and to weed through who is giving you the BS and who is going to give you the better job.
So if I were you I would think of it as you are doing the interviewing.Rollr4872 Thanks this. -

Start calling random trucking companies so to get used to recruiters, or the owner of a small company. Just say your looking at carriers to consider Applying to.

It is more you interviewing them than them interviewing you. In this market getting a job is the easy part. Finding a company that will treat you with respect and pay you what you deserve is the hard part. Relax, take a deep breath and you will be fine.
