Strange if you think about it. It's only abusive really because of how we, the public, will *likely* treat or discriminate against these kids throughout their lives.

If we didn't suck so bad, it wouldn't really be abusive. I'm sure they can and will get their names changed no questions asked. I would think the 1st ammendment allows for this sort of thing.

If CPS took the kids just because of their names, then we have a problem. Where does it end? What about those kids with strange names like Moonpie? Hell, even normal names can get a kid teased mercilessly.

While I may not agree with how a kid is raised, or how the kid is named, calling CPS because you don't agree with it sets a VERY dangerous precident.

This sends a chill down my spine. CPS better be able to prove those kids were in immediate danger. Otherwise, our move to a total police state is closer than I care to think.

Obviously they've gotten what they wanted. Attention and notoriety for their pro-nazi beliefs. I don't care what they say, they didn't just want a cake they wanted the attention and publicity, actions speak loudly.

As for the removal of their children, I sincerely doubt it was done over their names. If it was, then the state is now open for a law suit. Most likely the publicity they sought has led to other information coming to light. I'll be interested in reading further articles as the case moves on.

Consider the ramifications if those kid's attitudes reflect the image that
    their names conger up.

Daddy & Mommy as role models?
    What are the odds?

Sure would be catchy prison names though.
    Ya reckon.

Changin' a name or two is a WHOLE lot easier than changin'
    attitudes.
These kids might already be brain-washed.
    Will they ever totally recover?

There's more to all this than mere names.

And we thought namin' a boy "SuE" was bad? :biggrin_2551:
    How Do You DO? :biggrin_25525:

    I'd agree.
    ShuX HowdY!
Where did it all START? :smt102
    No!
    No!

    Not "MoonPIE" :biggrin_25512:
    MoonUnit
    Frank Zappa's kid.
    He had another named Dweezel.

But the Zappa family had money.
    Who laughs at money?

    I'd agree.

But as I've already mentioned, I think this matter goes beyond mere names.

I doubt most folks would agree that for a child to be raised in a hateful
environment is not beneficial for the child.

To NOT inform CPS, I think, would be a dis-service to any child involved.
Do I think CPS is over-reacting?
    I don't know.
    I hope not --- in a way.
And hope SO, --- in other ways.

I think CPS is doin' it's job.
With all the attention being drawn upon that department,
I think they're coverin' their collective bottoxes. :yes2557:
    Call it a hunch. :biggrin_25525:

Hey, you here those running feet? That is the sound of the ACLU Lawyers, beating a path to the door of this poor mistreated family!

CHILD ABUSE? Oh come on, how can this be considered to be child abuse? After all, it is perfectly natural to name your kids after people that you admire!

As one poster said, "if we didn't suck so bad. . ." Uh-huh, and if your aunt was plumbed differently, she would be your uncle!

There is no way that these parents did not know exactly what they were doing when they named these kids. Now they are just getting the beginnings of the notoriety that they are craving.

    Talk about people who suck??????

You can't prosecute everyone you don't agree with. Everyone loves the constitution until someone uses it. Plenty of people would love to see you behind bars for owning a rifle if so. It all works both ways.

This is a fairly run of the mill 1st ammendment issue.

These kids have terrible names, but they're only as meaningful to the extent that we would judge them when we met them. That's why I say people suck.

    Twue.
At least the law says we shouldn't.
That's where the law comes in and takes over for us, and decides if the case
    is worth prosecutin'.
Anythang in the Constitution mention protectin' those who can't protect themselves, -----
And maybe those who may not even realize that they NEED protectin'?
So far, my rifle has harmed no one. And I hope it stays that way.
    But I understand your point.

Seems that the courts re-define that amendment all the time.
    Who Knows?
This could be a land-mark case and launch and aggressive
    District Attorney's career.
    The publicity is there.

I'm thinkin' a name like "Fire" would be another bad name to name a child, too.

I mean, imagine takin' Fire to the walk in movies and Fire got lost in the dark -----
    Could a parent legally yell F I R E
    in that theater?

    Just wonderin' -----

    HA! That's funny.

I always tell people be careful what you name your dog. Eventually you'll be out on the porch at 1am screaming it at the top of your lungs.

DOOKIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Could be Dukey, no one cares.

    Same for cats, amigo. :yes2557:
    Oh soooo vewy twue!

    Lemmie tell ya -----
My parents lived in an older, mostly white, neighborhood, ...... and had an all-white cat named
    "Hon key".
Then the house right next door was sold to a nice, black family --- with two great kids.

Sure 'nuff --- one night Hon key was late comin' home and the folks were callin'
    Hon key's name.

The new neighbor inquired as to whom they were callin' --- and my dad explained -----
And they became pretty good neighbors.

My dad a WWII Navy Vet -----
And Mike, the new neighbor, was in the USMC, livin' off base, but when ON base, he was in charge of loadin' ordnance (bombs & rockets & cannon rounds) in and under F-A-18 jet fighters.
    How cool is that?

So, I reckon not all bad names are a bad thang.
Maybe just bad under certain conditions.
Perhaps "Cracker" would have been a better name for my parent's all white cat?
    Under the circumstances. :biggrin_25525:

When I was a kid in high school, I had a summer job at a GM dealer. A family member of the owner of the dealership was there one day showing off her new baby boy. Her married last name was Head, so you probably know where this is going. Yep, named that poor little boy Richard Peter Head. Believe it or not, but it's sadly the truth.
