TWIC card

You may want to get both a TWIC card and a HazMat endorsement on your CDL.
It will provide greater access to many different places, as mentioned in the post #9 by @Chinatown, (sea ports, rail yards, chemical plants, military bases, and prisons),along with the ability to haul many more different types of freight that might be classified as "hazardous".

Are the background checks the same? I just paid the TSA for my hazmat check

 

No, the twic is more involved and takes longer. You pay separate fees.
