I know Paccar has a medium duty engine out now, but don't know anything about them. Now they are to release a class 8 engine later this year and was wondering if anyone has heard of any test results. I talked to my Peterbilt dealer the other day about specing out a new truck. I have always been a Caterpillar man, but with Cat dropping out of the North America market, that only left the Cummins engine. I'm not a big fan of Cummins. That's when the service manager at Pete told me about the release of the Paccar class 8 engine and said he had heard good things about it. They have supposedly been testing it for about 7 years now. Just wanted to see if anyone else has heard anything.

I hope they produce a product that actually works. Unlike the Acerts and the current POS Cummins that can't stay out of the shop.

I heard cummins helped build this engine??

Paccar has declined all comment on its new power plants but will start building it first heavy-duty engines in late 2009, based on engines from its European subsidiary DAF.

If Cummins is in on this, I would imagine it will use the urea also.

Well, I run a twin turbo Acert, and to some peoples surprise, I haven't had nothing but good luck with it. It runs and pulls strong and fuel mileage is about 5.4 at about 75 mph with a 48 ft spread reefer. I'm just trying to figure out if I should plan on keeping this truck for a while, since I'm not sure about these new engines.

Cummins is not in on this at all. Paccar has been testing it for a while. I have seen their trucks way up north (past the 60th parrellel) and out in colorado several times. It should be a good product, that is coming from a guy who likes cummins.

Sorry, I just heard the rumor from a former cummins mechanic.
