Stevens is not settling for 1500 bucks.
These starter companies have long ago got hip
To the trick the op is trying to pull.
He got a free ride to orientation, free food, free motel,
Free training and got his CDL.
Knowing full well that he wasn't going to do a year.
First load home he quits.
I hope they hammer his credit.
Only problem is he didn't read all those papers he
Signed in orientation. He thought he was smarter
Than a dumb old multi million dollar company that's
Been in business 50 years.
They go thru this every week.
Probably got thier own collection department.
And they can put anything they want on his DAC,
Just to make his life a little more miserable.
They didn't become mega's by giving away thier money.
His best bet is to start paying them back now.
But he can't get that local job he had planned on all
Along with 1 month experience.
Any of us could have told him that beforehand.
So he'll end up at another mega,
Making the same amount of money he would
Made at Stevens, minus a 100 bucks a week
To pay for his CDL.Elg1968, austinmike and dunchues Thank this. -
I think i am going to go join the Air Force and get my pilots license. Then, in a couple of months, i'll leave and go get me a job flying UPS 747 cargo from Louisville to Paris.
Jeessh, you went to the company orientation. Didn't you listen? They tell you what they expect, how long you stay out, and what their home time is.
It amazes me that people come on here and tell us they signed up for a company and then start asking how much they pay, where do they run, what the hometime is.
Don't you think to ask these questions before you signed up?Elg1968, Crusader66 and Maj. Jackhole Thank this. -
Central Voc Tech, Drumwright OK $1,500 for 4wk PTDI school, $300 for boarding & a plane ticket from SeaTac to OKC. Of course this was in the 90's but still half the price of carriers & private schools back then & probably still is. You can also get a CDL through local trucking companies that will pay for it all, even hazmat, twic & in my state an enhanced CDL for boarder crossing. Some LTL's will hire you to work the docks & train you to drive.
Just crazy what people are paying these day for a job most will wash out of in 2yrs or less. -
What exactly did you interpret 3 to 4 weeks on the road before home time to be?
Warrior Cat Thanks this. -
You should have stuck it out with Stevie. it sucks but thats part of the game -

I have heard really nothing but good things about Stevens. What is appealing to me is that after a period of orientation and skills review, you get a fairly new or absolutely new truck to drive solo. For me, driving solo is one of the main reasons I am entering this field. Please tell me if I am mistaken with my assumption.

And one more thing... If a rookie is trained on an automatic transmission, is it difficult to get a job where they have not fully converted to automatic yet? What's your take?

This is a very common mistake, made by the new drivers just getting their CDL, and using companies to get it. To many times people are so oblivious to reading the contract, or letting a lawyer look it over before signing. You should have a company send/fax you the contract after you apply to the company school. If the company has nothing to hide, and is reputable. They will do this without issue.Warrior Cat and mjd4277 Thank this.

The OP probably won't last long at all in the Trucking Industry. Perhaps in a related industry like I did but not driving a truck - too obvious.
